The role of translation in humanitarian work cannot be overrated. Tamarind Translations is currently spearheading translation of training manuals from English to Swahili for a humanitarian academy working across East Africa. With a team of translators, reviewers and terminologists, we have not only translated text but also localised the content for the benefit of humanitarian workers in the region who work as responders during emergencies.
Through our work, humanitarian workers can access an online platform in East Africa, designed to facilitate access to knowledge and quality learning opportunities.
The learning modules equip humanitarian workers to save lives, alleviate suffering and protect human dignity in response to man-made crises or natural disasters. The learning modules are available in Swahili, a language they understand.
Using state-of-the-art translation software, we provide consistent rendition of terms and phrases across the different modules, totalling over 150,000 words. The team has generated a glossary for terminology reference, and they collaborate efficiently online. This is a complex task and it is one of our major projects this year.
